A Few Adventures in Technology Transfer

Keynote by Dr. Sharon Goldberg

Tuesday, 25 February 2020
8:30am – 9:30am

Having started my career in academia, in recent years I’ve become increasingly focused on deploying security technology in real systems people use every day. This talk will discuss a few of my adventures in technology transfer, and two key metrics that I now think can determine the success or failure of each adventure. The first metric is ease of integration, and the second metric is precise specification.  I’ll discuss these in the context of research on verifiable random functions (VRFs), certification of public keys, and blockchain atomic-swap protocols. I hope this talk encourages the community to give credence to these metrics when evaluating academic security research.
